A Simple Guide To ‘Green Cleaning’

Since 2003, the phraseGreen Cleaninghas caused a lot of discussion about what is Green Cleaning. To simplify the process we at Acme Janitor break it down into one of three categories.

1st is to use products that directly contribute to a cleaner, safer, and healthier environment for workers and building occupants. This is staying with your current cleaning procedures and changing to Green Seal Certified Products. This is the simplest and easiest way to get started in Green Cleaning.

2nd is to not only use Green Sealed Products and to reduce your carbon footprint which includes reducing water usage, chemical usage, and trash removal. This process is a little more complicated and requires chemicals to be dispensed from concentrates and utilizing different cleaning equipment that uses less water and chemicals. You also need to be recycling as much as you can to reduce your trash and procedures for cleaning may be adjusted to fit the products and equipment change. This process usually requires Training and Certification.

3rd is to get your building LEED certified which is a comprehensive system offering project certification, professional accreditation, training and practical resources. The cleaning part of this process can earn you up to 12 points toward LEED certification. LEED is the acronym for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. For existing buildings it takes 40 to 49 points to be certified, 50 to 59 to become Silver, 60 to 79 for Gold and 80 to 110 for Platinum.
